Canopée

2024|Trois-Rivières

Canopée : A Bright Haven for the Student Community.

The Canopée project stands out for its commitment to enhancing student life in Trois-Rivières through thoughtful, inclusive, and sustainable architecture. Located near the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR) campus, this six-story building features 179 affordable housing units designed to address the current shortage while fostering a stimulating and harmonious living environment.

A collaboration with the non-profit organization UTILE, Canopée offers studios and two-bedroom apartments that balance functionality with a welcoming atmosphere. Private and shared spaces are designed to meet the diverse needs of students, with adaptable housing, biophilic communal spaces incorporating wood and greenery, and outdoor amenities promoting active lifestyles.

The building’s luminous and graphic envelope, clad in skillfully arranged metal profiles, interacts with natural light to bring vitality to the facades. Openings subtly integrate mechanical systems, ensuring visual cohesion while optimizing energy performance. The project also emphasizes the surrounding natural environment with a lush canopy—a future oasis amidst an area dominated by asphalt and major road and rail networks.

Canopée transcends traditional housing by prioritizing community and well-being. Fitness modules, shared gardens, bike stations, and sustainable mobility initiatives such as car-sharing contribute to reducing the carbon footprint. This inclusive, accessible, and secure space blends architecture and landscape to enrich residents' lives while harmoniously integrating into its surroundings.
